Saint Mary’s Academy of Oslob is one of the prestigious institutions of the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary that offers not only academic but wholistic approach in general, in imbibing the Core Values of Faith, Excellence and Service that are being planted in every Marian’s heart so that in the long run they may carry these values as part of their identity as Ignacian-Marian graduates.
One of these Core Values that the school emphasizes is the value of SERVICE. In II Cor. 9:12-13, the Bible says“the service we provide not only meets needs but expresses thanks to God and leads others to praise God.”In order for this passage to be realized and manifested, Saint Mary’s Academy of Oslob, continuesto build and develop Community Involvement Program (CIP) for the poor, the marginalized, and theneediest. This program aims to live the true Christian Spirit God through his people continuously teach through the Gospel. As the saying goes “two hands and two heads are better than one”, thanks to our ever-supportive administrators, collaborators, benefactors and the whole Marian Community for tirelessly rendering and providingservices to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The following services rendered are as follows:
1. Outreach Program at the School’s Adopted Barangay at SitioKalkalan, Oslob, Cebu
Most of the outreach services rendered by the different clubs are being done in this adopted barangay. Students with their Club Moderators during their club monthgoes to this adopted barangay and bring joy to every child’s eyes by providing educational and spiritual lectures, games, physical exercises and other acts of love like food giving. Marian students are being taught thevalue of service and its impact not just for the beneficiaries but for themselves as well.
2. Christmas Bazaar
This School Year we started the Christmas Bazaar. Parents and children from the school’s adopted barangay and also poor families living near the cemetery area were invited on December 17, 2019 to the aforesaid activity at Saint Mary’s Academy of Oslob. These families were given a short input about the importance of Advent Season by Ms.Teoremen F. Rendon then later the parents and children showcased their talents. Each family received groceries and went home with bundles of joy for Christmas.
During this season of joy and gift giving, the Marian Community and other benefactors extended their help to make the event a memorable one. Truly the spirit of giving radiates and flows in every Marian’s heart.
3. Catechism Classes at Oslob Central Elementary School
Selected Grade 9 and Grade 10 students of St. Mary’s Academy of Oslob were given opportunity to extend their service through teaching catechetical lessons to young minds of Oslob Central Elementary School (OCES). Every Wednesday at 3:30-4:30 p.m. these 28 young Catechists tirelessly teach these kids from Grade 1 to 6 with dedication and passion.
4. Recollection Giving to Elementary and Senior High Schools
Being a Catholic School, St. Mary’s Academy of Oslob extends its service through providing spiritual activities not only to its students but also to neighboringschools. As Matthew 4:4 states “Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God”. As much as we want to be healthy physically, so our souls too, and the Word of God is the ultimate food for our inner core.
Saint Mary’s Academy through the person of the Christian Formation Coordinator renders recollection giving to the different schools nearby the municipality of Oslob. All for the glory of God.
